Scouts rewarded at court of honour

Whenever the majority of folks picture the Boy Scouts of the USA they start thinking about camping, tying knots, and primarily they picture merit badges.

Young men that join a Boy Scout troop can not wait until they're awarded their very first merit badge, and quite a few of the newest members of Boy Scout Troop 417 do not have to wait any further. The troop, that is chartered to the First United Methodist Church in Park Hills, organised a Court of Recognition event on September. 8 to reward the members of the troop with merit badges, rank progression patches, summertime camp patches and a handful of further honours.

A lot more than fifty parents, grandparents and sisters and brothers came together to witness the ceremony, among the many organised year-round, as 16 Boy Scouts were recognized and awarded for their labors. There were 62 merit badges rewarded that night. On the list of badges presented were those for camping out, Cooking, Pioneering, Citizenship in the World, Communicating, Computers, Forestry, and Mammal Study, to name just a few.

Eleven of the Boy Scouts were further acknowledged for their successes by receiving rank advancement patches signifying their achievement of needs; Zackary Aubuchon, Bobby Hambrick, Samuel Heimes, Will Lucy, Austin Northcutt, and Caleb Williford all got their Scout rank, Alek Barrington acquired First-class rank, Gage DeBlois received Star rank, and Caleb Barry, Kwinton Burnett, and Chase DeBlois all picked up Life rank. Caleb Barry was also recognized for his completion of the Mile Swim while enrolled in Camp this past summer, a feat he has performed three summers in a row. Adult Scout Leader John Barrington was also recognized for completing the Mile Swim.


The commemoration was presided over by Scoutmaster Gene Bannister with Life Scouts Logan Comfort and Jacob Bannister giving away the triumphs. Also attending was special guest presenter Houston Seaton, Petty Officer 3rd-class, who is training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command based at the Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, South Carolina. Seaton is a 2013 graduate of Central Secondary School plus an Eagle Scout that used to be a member of Cub Scout Pack 417. Seaton spoke about how being a Boy Scout prepared him for his army career. Boy Scout Troop 417 hold meetings every single Monday nighttime at the First United Methodist Church on Taylor Avenue in Park Hills. Youngsters considering getting started with Boy Scouts are asked to come out and learn far more or they can search online to BeAScout.org to find a Boy Scout Troop, Cub Scout Pack or Venturing Crew near their home.
